মাহমুদ দারভিশ ও তার মোসাদ প্রেমিকা

মাত্র ১৮ বছর বয়সে মাহমুদ দারভিশ, একজন তরুণ কমিউনিস্ট ফিলিস্তিনি তার এক কমিউনিস্ট সহকর্মী (পরে জানা যায় যে তিনি মোসাদের একজন গুপ্তচর) তামের বেন আমি এর প্রেমে পড়েন। (দারভিশ তার পরিচয় রক্ষার জন্য তাকে রীতা বলে ডাকতেন)। সে সময় তারা দুজনই ইসরায়েলি কমিউনিস্ট পার্টিতে ( হিব্রুতে ‘মাকি’ নামে পরিচিত) সক্রিয় ছিলেন। (মাকি ছিল একমাত্র ইসরায়েলি রাজনৈতিক দল যারা ফিলিস্তিনের জাতীয় অনুভূতিকে স্বীকৃতি দিয়েছিল, দুর্ভাগ্যবশত পার্টিটি ৭০ এর দশকে বিলুপ্ত হয়ে যায়)। এ সময় তারা প্রেমে পড়েন এবং প্রচুর প্রেমপত্রও বিনিময় করেন। কিন্তু ইসরায়েল এবং আরব দেশগুলির মধ্যে উত্তেজনা বাড়তে শুরু করলে দারবিশ অনুভব করেন যে তার এবং তামেরের মধ্যে দূরত্বও যেনো দিন দিন বাড়ছে।

সে সময় তাকে নিজের মাতৃভূমি আখ্যা দিয়ে দারভিশ লেখেন, “আমার জনগণ, আমার শহর এবং প্রথার শৃঙ্খল থাকা সত্ত্বেও আমি তোমাকে ভালবাসি। কিন্তু আমি ভয় পাচ্ছি যদি আমি সবাইকে বিক্রি করে দেই, তুমিও আমাকে বিক্রি করে দিবে আর আমাকে হতাশা নিয়ে ফিরতে হবে। “

এটাই ছিলো তাদের শেষ দেখা। পরের বছর আরব ইসরায়েল যুদ্ধ শুরু হয় এবং জেলখানার প্রহরীর থেকে থেকে তিনি জানতে পারেন যে তার প্রিয়তমা তামের এখন তারই প্রিয় মাতৃভূমির বিরুদ্ধে রাইফেল নিয়ে যুদ্ধ করছে, হত্যা করছে নিরস্ত্র ফিলিস্তিনিদেরকে, নির্যাতন করছে সেইসব ফিলিস্তিনি মেয়েদেরকে। তামের একজন প্রেমিকা থেকে সর্বনিকৃষ্ট শত্রুতে রূপান্তরিত হয়েছে।

ভিতরে ভিতরে ধ্বংস হয়ে যাওয়া দারভিশ লিখলেন, “রিতা এবং আমার চোখের মধ্যখানে বসে গেছে একটি রাইফেল …..” (এখানে রাইফেলটি বিচ্ছেদ এবং বিশ্বাসঘাতকতার প্রতিনিধিত্ব করে।

১৯৯২ সালে দারবিশ তার শেষ কবিতা লিখেছিলেন তামেরকে নিয়ে ”রিতা’স উইন্টার” নামে, সেখানে তিনি লিখেন, “আমার অজ্ঞতা ও বোকামি থেকে আমি তোমাকে একটি মাতৃভূমি বলেছিলাম অথচ আমি ভুলে গেছি যে মাতৃভূমিও কেড়ে নেওয়া যায়।”

খুব সম্ভব তামেরও দারভিশকে সত্যি সত্যিই ভালোবাসতেন। সেই ভালোবাসা থেকেই দারভিশকে জেলখানার অন্ধুকূপে নিয়ে যান যাতে আসন্ন যুদ্ধতে তিনি নিরাপদ থাকেন। দারভিশ ও বেন আমি এর এই প্রেম গাঁথাটা হার মানিয়ে দেয় শেক্সপিয়ারের রোমিও-জুলিয়েটকেও। দুই বিবদমান আদর্শিক শত্রুর মধ্যকার প্রেম। একজন এক মুক্তিকামী জাতির জাতীয় কবি আরেকজন সেই মুক্তির চিরশত্রু দখলদার সেনা।

২০০৮ সালে মাহমুদ দারভিশ মারা যান। তার সেই প্রথম প্রেম, প্রথম ভালোবাসা তামের বেন আমি এখন জার্মানিতে থাকেন, বেশ কয়েক বছর আগে এক সাক্ষাতকারের সময় তিনি প্রচন্ড আবেগ নিয়ে অর্ধ শতক আগে তার উদ্দেশ্যে লেখা দারভিশের সকল প্রেমপত্রগুলোও দেখান। তিনি এখনো সংরক্ষণ করে রেখেছেন তাদের তারুণ্যের এই অসম প্রেমের নিদর্শনগুলো।

At the age of 18, Mahmoud Darwish, a young naive communist Palestinian fall in love with fellow communist activist (later it was revealed that she was a spy of Mossad) Tamer Ben Ami. (Darwish called her Rita to safeguard her identity). At that time both of them were active in the Israeli Communist Party known as ‘Maki’ in Hebrew. (Maki was the only Israeli party that recognized Palestinian national sentiments, unfortunately the party was dissolved during 1970s). During that time they fell in love and exchanged lots of love letters. But as the tension between Israel and Arab countries began to rise Darwish felt that there is also a distance being growing between him and Tamer.

At that time calling her his homeland, he wrote, “I love you despite the nose of my people, my city and the chains of customs. But I am afraid if I sell everyone, you will sell me and I have to return with disappointment.”

During that time he got arrested and while taking him into prison Tamer was with him. Then in the prison she came to visit him. During her visit Darwish saw an altercation between the prison guard and Tamer where the guard was asking Tamer, ‘Who are you? why are you here?” In which she replied, ‘I am here to see my sweetheart, who are you to say no to me.’ The guard angrily said, ‘I am an officer of the army’ In reply Tamer shouted, “SO AM I and I have come with him all the way to say goodbye” then she brought out her military id and then the guard smirked. Darwish realised it was her who was responsible for Darwish and it was her who took him to prison. (May be to ensure during upcoming war Darwish to be safe?!)

That was the last time he saw her. Later during the Arab Israel war started and from the prison guard he came to know that his beloved Tamer is fighting against his beloved homeland with light rifle. She has transitioned from being a lover to the worst enemy.

Feeling devasted he wrote, “Between Rita and my eyes there is a rifle….” (the rifle here represents the separation and betrayal.

In 1992 Darwish wrote his last poem related to Tamer named ”Rita’s winter” there he wrote, “Out of my ignorance, I called you a homeland and I forgot homelands can be taken away.”

It is very possible that Tamer also really loved Darwish. It was from that love that Darwish was taken to the dungeon of the prison so that he would be safe in the coming war. Darwish and Ben Ami’s love affair beats Shakespeare’s Romeo-Juliet. A love between two conflicting ideological enemies. One is the national poet of a liberating nation and the other is the member of the occupying army, the eternal enemy of that liberation.

Mahmoud Darwish died in 2008. His first love, Tamer Ben Ami, who now lives in Germany, several years ago during an interview she showed with great emotion all of Darvish’s love letters written to her half a century ago. She still preserves these tokens of their youthful love.
